Erik Brynjolfsson: AI and the Economy

February 24, 2017

EB AI

One of the grand challenges of our time is how to grow our prosperity through automation without leaving masses of people behind. IDE Director, Erik Brynjolfsson, discusses the confluence of technical and economic challenges at the Future of Life Institute  conference in January.

AI represents one of the biggest tech revolutions ever, he said, yet the challenges are greater than in the past, as well. Will human labor go the way of horses as AI becomes more widespread and as it takes on intellectual tasks as well as musclepower?  Who will control the technology and determine how it is used?  Erik –who considers himself a “mindful-optimist”– tackles these important issues, and offers action items, in this workshop discussion.
