Dr. Elizabeth J. Altman

Digital Fellow

Dr. Elizabeth J. Altman is an associate professor of management at UMass Lowell’s Manning School of Business. She is a research affiliate at M.I.T.’s Initiative on the Digital Economy and a Nonresident Fellow in the Economic Studies Program of the Brookings Institution. Altman has been a visiting scholar at the Harvard Business School and visiting professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Altman’s research focuses on strategy, innovation, platforms, ecosystems, artificial intelligence (AI), leadership, and the future of work. She is the lead author of the book “Workforce Ecosystems: Reaching Strategic Goals with People, Partners, and Technologies” (MIT Press, 2023). Her research has been published in the Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Brookings Institution, Academy of Management Annals, Journal of Management Studies, and elsewhere. Prior to academia, Altman spent 18 years in industry and was a vice president at Motorola. She holds a doctorate in business administration from Harvard Business School, master’s of science degrees in mechanical engineering and management from M.I.T., and a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Cornell University.
