In this video, IDE Research Lead and MIT CSAIL rearcher, Neil Thompson introduces the concept of “negaflops:” increases in efficiency that allow us to develop more capable AI models without a proportional increase in computing power or environmental impact.
He highlighted how these efficiency gains allow for the development of larger and more sophisticated models and he emphasized the importance of such advances in reducing the environmental impact of AI technologies. This talk was produced at the CSAIL + Imagination in Action: AI Frontiers and Implications event at MIT Stata Center on June 7, 2024.
