A Note From the IDE Executive Director

June 08, 2020

vigil

The killing of George Floyd, and too many before him, are horrific reminders of the inequity and injustice in America. The MIT community is clear in our stand that racism and brutality cannot be tolerated, as discussed at the recent Community Vigil. (Also see MIT’s statement here.) Universities have long been a catalyst for social change, and now is the time to re-commit ourselves to racial equality.

In our own small way, the IDE is playing a role – through the Inclusive Innovation Challenge, our research on the impact of social networks on truth, and our policy of making all of our events open and available to any scholar of color. Of course, these efforts aren’t enough, and we at the IDE pledge to do more. If each of us makes a conscious effort to build a better society, we will succeed. Doing nothing is not an option. –David Verrill

If you are a scholar of color and would like to attend an IDE sponsored event free of charge, please email digital@mit.edu for the gratis registration code.
